Astronomia is about the display of extraordinary, miniature, finely crafted objects. Jacob & Co. has made it a platform to express the entire span of its creativity. Astronomia Dragon is a subcollection of its own standing. It gathers all the know-how Jacob & Co. accumulated in watchmaking, high jewelry and artistic crafts and applies it to Jacob & Co.'s most emblematic, striking and powerful creature : the dragon. Mythical and very much alive, positive and mighty, the dragon is by far the most revered creature in the watchmaking playbook. Jacob & Co. has been manufacturing dragon-themed timepieces for the last decade, without interruption, always at the highest level of craft, symbolism and exclusivity. Astronomia Dragon features a majestic, three-dimensional, expressive and ominous wingless dragon inspired by the Asian tradition. The rose gold sculpture has been the focus of several timepieces, all of which are unique pieces. The dragon is either left in its natural, solid gold state, or hand-painted. The entire creature is highly expressive and changes as iterations go. One thing remains, how the open mouth, the potent claws, the coiled body and the detailed scales all spell out excellence in craft.

From a creative concept to design inspiration. To the first stroke of a pencil through hundreds of iterations. A timepiece like no other comes to life. Astronomia Dragon is impressive and expressive, highly detailed and very elaborate.

Installing a miniature dragon sculpture required altering the original Astronomia vertical, rotating caliber. The movement in Astronomia Dragon is a fixed version of it. This allows to integrate this large, expressive, vertical creature between its four arms. The dragon sculpture reaches a rare level of complexity and detail. The dragon itself is coiled and wrapped around the Astronomia movement. It's crafted out of solid rose gold, hand-made, hand-finished and hand-painted by our specialist craftspeople. Their hands are capable of executing the most delicate, intricate and elaborate of subjects. They give each individual Astronomia Dragon its unique life.

Astronomia Dragon blends artistry and extreme precision. Its relies on the non-spinning version of the Astronomia movement : exclusive, hand-wound Caliber JCAM25. A long and elaborate dragon is wrapped around its vertical structure.

A DRAGON BORN OF ART AND CRAFT

The intense narrative in Astronomia Dragon is entirely centered on the dragon's expression. Measuring several centimeters in length, its complexity comes from its three-dimensional coiling, and the fact that it's intertwined with the satellites of the elaborate Astronomia movement. Jacob & Co.'s artistic vision is served by a fine execution of near-microscopic scale. The number and shape of the beast's beard strands, its claws, its scales, its tongue and eyes are a testament to Jacob & Co.'s sense of detail and refinement.

THE EARTH

Like all Astronomias, this version represents a solar system, it contains our home planet. Crafted out of magnesium for lightness, it is hand-lacquered in blue for likeness. The shape of emerged grounds and continents is clearly visible. This Earth spins on its own axis every 60 seconds.

THE DOUBLE-AXIS FLYING TOURBILLON

At the end of one satellite arm hangs a double-axis tourbillon. It's held inside an openworked carriage. It revolves on two axes, one in 60 seconds, the other in 5 minutes. With a single attachment point, this is a flying tourbillon.

THE DIAMOND MOON

Astronomia Dragon features a moon. That's the planet chosen to represent the high jewelry aspect of Jacob & Co.'s identity. This moon is actually a 1 ct. white diamond. Carved from a large rough of extremely high quality, it receives the exclusive, spherical, 288-facet, Jacob-cut. This moon spins on its own axis in 60 seconds.

THE HOUR AND MINUTE DIAL

Emerging from the coils of the dragon's body, an off-centered, raised dial provides Astronomia Dragon's essential information. Hour and minute hands sit on top of a finely finished titanium dial. Openworked to the extreme, it provides a transparency that leaves the dragon figurine front and center.
